In the Asnières-lès-Bourges neighborhood, members of the Le Chemin de Bascoulard association, together with committed residents of “la Ruche du quartier”, are initiating an art commission based on the memory of artist Marcel Bascoulard.
A former hamlet that has become a suburb of Bourges, located north of the city center, Asnières-lès-Bourges retains a close relationship with its unspoiled natural surroundings. Marcel Bascoulard, a unique and avant-garde figure, lived and worked there, leaving behind a body of work marked by meticulous drawings of the city and a marginalized lifestyle, now largely transmitted through local oral memory.
United around this heritage, the commissioners wish to make this memory accessible to new generations while encouraging reflection on the preservation of the artist’s last place of residence, the natural site of Les Gargaudières, renowned for its biodiversity. The request concerns the creation of an artistic trail combining a tribute to the artist and awareness of the landscape, along the ecological corridor linking Asnières, Saint-Doulchard, and the Garettes Sensitive Natural Area.
Commission developed as part of the Call for Proposals for New Patrons in Centre-Val de Loire, with the support of the Société des Nouveaux commanditaires, supported by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, and Bourges, European Capital of Culture 2028.
