Local authority officials, technical staff and residents of the town of Biganos are commissioning an artwork for the library of the future community hub “Le Chahut.”
The town of Biganos, situated between the Arcachon Bay and the Bordeaux metropolitan area, has initiated a reflection on the reinvention of a genuine town centre. At the heart of this emerging hub lies a citizen-led community space project, which also addresses the social, societal and urban challenges arising from Biganos’ transformation. Overseen by the architectural firm Construire, the project is designed as a welcoming, accessible and collaborative space, dedicated to fostering civic engagement, cultural vitality, creativity and collective exchange.
A genuine culture of collaboration and co-creation is set to become part of the DNA of this new space, which will bring together the library, the social centre and the community associations’ hub. The local authority has chosen to implement the 1% for Art scheme for the new library. In line with its commitment to participatory initiatives, it was decided—jointly with the Ministry of culture (DRAC), the local authority and Pointdefuite—to implement the 1% for Art using the New Patrons methodology, ensuring that residents are fully represented throughout the commissioning process.
