The teacher seconded to the “Inspire” Micro-School based at the Collection Lambert in Avignon, together with professionals from the same contemporary art museum and local residents of the adjoining street, are commissioning a garden within the museum grounds. This garden aims to support the Micro-School’s educational project, “Inner Landscapes – Outer Landscapes”, while also strengthening the connection between the museum, the children, and the neighbourhood community.
The Lambert Collection, in partnership with the Vaucluse Education Authority, has been piloting a project for the past three years, hosting a CM1/CM2 class (Years 5 and 6) composed of students at risk of disengagement and from priority urban areas of Avignon.
For the past three years, the Lambert Collection, in partnership with the Vaucluse Education Authority, has been piloting a project within its institution by hosting a CM1/CM2 class (equivalent to Years 5 and 6) composed of students at risk of disengagement and from priority urban areas of Avignon. The educational project is now expanding with the plan to create a garden in a 500 m² outdoor space within the museum grounds, lying unused for several years. The medium-term goal is to encourage children to explore these spaces and the various forms of life they contain, while producing seeds that can be shared and sown at other schools across the city.
The commissioners wish to create an artistic-landscape for everyday use which will also help to strengthen the “inside/outside” connection between the children of the ‘Inspire’ Micro-School and local residents. The garden will gradually open onto the adjoining Rue Raspail, so that alongside its educational role, it can also become an inviting and sociable public space for a wider audience. Over time, this “landscape artwork,” created as part of the Nouveaux commanditaires, initiative will serve as a “bridge” inviting both residents and visitors to explore the garden tended by the children.
After an unsuccessful attempt in the first half of 2024 with BAS SMETS, a “landscape architect” who had been suggested by the mediator and selected for the commission, a new artist with a similar profile and expertise will soon be recommended to the commissioners by the mediator.
