The Call for Proposals New Patrons in Centre-Val de Loire was launched in 2025 by the Société des Nouveaux Commanditaires, supported by the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation, and Bourges 2028, European Capital of Culture.

Opens to all residents of the region, this call was aimed at groups of citizens wishing to commission an artwork based on a local issue. It is part of a citizen-led dynamic and the perspective of Bourges, European Capital of Culture in 2028.

Accredited mediators from the New Patrons initiative will help groups draft specifications and identify the artistic discipline and artists to whom the commissions should be entrusted. The resulting works may take various forms, tangible or intangible, permanent or ephemeral, and will be unveiled in 2028 as part of Bourges, European Capital of Culture. They will reflect the concerns of the groups of commissionners and the role of citizen commissioning as a space for dialogue and collective transformation.

The governance of the Call for Proposals is based on three bodies:

  • the steering committee, composed of representatives from the three partner organisations,
  • the operational committee, composed of experienced mediators from the New Patrons initiative,
  • the communications committee, composed of representatives from the three partner organisations.

Commissions will be launched in early 2026 for an inauguration in 2028. Discover below the commissions and news related to this project.
